UniSA Australian HPV Super Series - McNamara Park
Updated: Nov 3, 2021
For the first time in 18 months we are back on track for the UniSA HPV (Human Powered Vehicle) Super series. Starting the season at McNamara Park in Compton (Just outside of Mount Gambier), McNamara is a 2.4km specially designed motorcycle track with 12 corners and multiple short and long straits requiring a wide variety of racing skills.
There was a total of 78 vehicles as a part of todays event with teams spanning from primary schools, high schools, university and private racing teams. A total of 35 school teams and 43 community teams which also encompass the 9 all female teams and the 6 Masters teams.
A wet and rainy start preceded the waving of the starters flag at 09:09am. Coupled with the fact that there had not been a race for the past 18 months made the first few laps a nail biting thrill on every corner. A few new scratches were added to multiple vehicles with no rider coming off worse for wear. The track marshals' were quick and well practiced with checking over the rider and getting them back on the track safely and quickly.
There was a total of 8 hours of solid racing today which remained a very close competition within their respective categories. Aurora from Aurora Racing was the track leader all day with Gunyah from Wattle Racing sitting a steady 1.5 laps behind. Aurora has some troubles in the last 20 minutes of the day but was able to maintain their lead to finish 1st over all.
All in all a fantastic day was had by all with everyone happy to be getting back into it after such a long forces break.
The next race will be an 8 hour event at The Bend Motorsport Park in Tailem Bend on the 23rd of May.
