125th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage in South Australia

Updated: Jun 1, 2020

I was proud to provide first aid coverage for this event today and learn some important history about my local area.

The city of Unley celebrated the 125th anniversary of women's sufferage in South Australia. Today in 1894 South Australia was the first electorate in Australia to give equal political rights to both women and men which was a huge step towards gender equality.

A thought provoking discussion was held by the panelists including Amanda Blair, Hon Penny Wong, Dr. Niki Vincent, Claire Lennon as well as Isobel and Eloise from TabooAU.

Discussion included some history of the women's suffragette movement in SA as well as some personal stories from the panelists. The floor was then opened to questions from the audience which was made up of both general public as well as multiple schools.

Overall a good day was had which was both entertaining and educational.
